Italy Trip – Last Days

After an overnight stay in Sorrento, we visited the famous Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in Europe. Due to heavy rain access was closed so the morning spent gift shopping.
Our afternoon visit was to the historic city of Pompeii.
The ruins of Pompeii are visited by over 2.6 million people per year. The city is so well preserved because it was buried so quickly by volcanic ash and it now provides snapshots of past life in a Roman city.
The Amphitheatre of Pompeii is the oldest stone building of its kind known to mankind, dating back to 80 BC.
Then more sightseeing and ice cream sampling in the city of Naples before continuing on to Rome for our final night. Tomorrow morning we have an early exit from Rome en route home to Gran Canaria.
