It takes a lot of qualities to make a great team: talent only gets you half way. Oakley combined that with hard work, leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and a never-say-die attitude. Oakley managed the unthinkable this season; not only winning both leagues, but also winning both tournaments.
In what was already a celebration, Oakley bought a squad for the annual tournament comprised of everyone who had taken part this season. There were no easy games against very strong sides from The British School, Canterbury, The American School and Pepe Dámaso.
Both teams won 3 of their 4 matches and drew the other, conceding just one goal in all 8 games.
Each team had a wonderful blend of players: those that had the flair to beat their marker; those who get into the right place at the right time to score; those who would run into a brick wall for their team; those that were born to lead a team and set the example when it started to get tough and the agility and safe hands of our goalkeepers.
This season they have all been a credit to themselves, their family and to Oakley College.
A huge ‘Well Done!’ to: Iván, Ale, Zeus, Nahuel, Darío, Javi, Samuel, Javi, Marta, Martina, Pablo, Manu, Juan, Arturo, Samuel, Benji, Manu, Filippo, Diego, Pablo, Pedro, Abián and to Victor, who was unable to make the tournament but played a pivotal part in the season with some outstanding saves in goal.
Will there ever be two more successful teams? We’ll have to wait for next year, but the future looks very bright!
