On February 20th we celebrated the official opening of the new Oakley Park in Las Lagares, adjacent to the main school in Calle Zuloaga and the site of the new Infant and Primary building. The new park provides more opportunities for sporting and cultural activities. It boasts 2 multi purpose pitches and 2 astro turf areas. There is also an area that is under development for a horticultural area that students will use to grow their own plants and vegetables.
Since its recent completion Oakley Park has already hosted sporting events between the international schools here on the island.
During the opening ceremony students from 5 years and up participated by showcasing their various talents. These included a cheer leading group, some gymnastic and a football skills displays and a musical session led by our choir. The good weather added to the colour and talented displays by the Primary and Secondary departments.
The senior students, including the Head boy and girl, took a little time off from their study for upcoming IGCSEs and A´levels to enjoy the fun afternoon and help direct their younger co students during the activities.
Helping us celebrate the addition to the school facilities, was Paquito Ortiz , ex UD player, captain and UD manager, who first visited the old site in Los Hoyos, almost 30 years ago as a young UD player!
The Early Years department finished the day with a picnic snack before going home.
