Year 6 Pirate Route

On 29th November, our Year 6 students visited places related with four crucial moments of the attack on the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, orchestrated by the buccaneer Pieter Van der Does: the landing place at Castillo de la Luz, the city fortifications at Castillo de Mata, the pirates’ escape to Vega y Gesta del Batán in Barranco de Guiniguada and the recapturing of the city and pirates’ consequent escape in Vegueta.  The students learned a lot about pirate and buccaneer attacks in the Canary Islands, and were able to put themselves in the shoes of the island’s inhabitants and relive what life was like in that era.
