Y1 had a spectacular trip to the aquarium ‘Poema del Mar’.
We were very excited to see all the sealife that we have been learning about in class.
We were able to see real coral reefs and creatures that live in the different layers of the oceans and rivers. Our favourite parts were observing the very new and very tiny baby seahorses and clownfish.
We were very lucky to see the octopus who rarely comes out from his cave. What a wonderful day and way to end our topic on the world’s great oceans!
Year 3 – Adventure Day
Year 3 had a fabulous adventure day this week at Arguineguin beach. They had a brilliant time on the banana boat and kayaking up and down the beach. There were team-building tasks which required lots of problem-solving skills and working together to achieve their goal. One of their goals was to soak their teachers! It was a fabulous day with excellent sunny weather! The children had a wonderful time and their behaviour was outstanding!
Y6 – Adventure Day
Year 6 had an amazing adventure day in Puerto Rico. They went kayaking, paddleboarding and on a banana ride. The children had so much fun, swimming and splashing in the water. Kayaking and paddleboarding were a first-time experience for some of the children and all of them learnt some new skills. The weather was lovely and the children really enjoyed themselves, spending all day outside. We had a very quiet bus on the return journey!
Y5 – Sciences
In science, year 5SE have been experimenting with gravity and air resistance.
In our first investigation, we tested how the size of an object would affect the speed of its fall.
In our second investigation, we made three parachutes and changed one variable to test which parachute would have the most air resistance.
We discussed the importance of a fair test, worked together to calculate our results and wrote a conclusion for our investigations. We love being scientists!
Y4A the Roman empire
It’s been a busy start to the year in 4A, with lots of fun activities. We have been using our whiteboards in maths to help us solve addition questions using the compact column method. In humanities, we have used our devices to research the spread of the Roman Empire, we were amazed at all the countries they invaded. We also used our atlas skills to locate some of the countries the Romans conquered.
Top 10 Tips for Learning During a Pandemic
Year 1 walk
Year 1 had a wonderful walk around our local area. We needed to map a route to help Sunny the meerkat find his way from the Kalahari desert to our school. We knew he would be in Tafira Alta somewhere by now! We also talked a lot about the natural and manufactured materials we could spot along the way.
Anti-Bullying Day
On Friday 26th February, children took part in the international Stand Up to Bullying Day. The children wore pink accessories to show their support. Children looked at the different types of bullying and what to do if they are being bullied. Classes completed activities about cyber bullying, being included, friendship and equality. The children have learnt a lot.
Y4A skills
In 4A we have been learning some new badminton skills in PE. In art, we have been planning and designing a rainforest collage ready to make soon. And although we recently won the Times Tables Rockstars competition, we still need to practise so we have been using our devices when we get the chance.
Space Dave – Year 5
On Monday 30th November, Y5 had a very special meeting on Google Meet with an astronomer in New Zealand! Dave Owen is an astronomer, teacher, owner of a space museum in New Zealand and fanatic space enthusiast. He has been passionate about space for as long as he can remember, and he loves sharing his enthusiasm with others.
The children learnt more about Earth’s position in the Solar System and wider Universe; days, nights and years on Earth and other planets; the night sky; spaceflight (including robotic space probes and human exploration of space) and the International Space Station.
Here are some quotes from the children:
“It was a fantastic meeting and we all learnt so much about Space that we didn´t know”
