Year 2 had a wonderful time on their trip to Gáldar this week. They visited the fascinating Cueva Pintada and enjoyed learning about the lives of the indigenous people of Gran Canaria. We found out interesting facts about where they lived, what they ate and what they wore and loved looking at the beautiful geometric paintings on the cave wall, so much so that we were inspired to do some of our own in class! They ate lunch in the Plaza de Santiago and did some beautiful sketches of the church and the town square. They even managed to squeeze in a visit to the playpark too!

Our Year 1 students shone in their assembly, singing Here Comes the Sun and a joyful springtime song. They built words with adjacent consonants using Alphablocks and engaged the audience in a fun science quiz on everyday materials. A fantastic celebration of learning and creativity.

IMG 7036We were very excited to see all the sealife that we have been learning about in class.

We were able to see real coral reefs and creatures that live in the different layers of the oceans and rivers. Our favourite parts were observing the very new and very tiny baby seahorses and clownfish.

We were very lucky to see the octopus who rarely comes out from his cave. What a wonderful day and way to end our topic on the world’s great oceans!

Year 3 had a fabulous adventure day this week at Arguineguin beach. They had a brilliant time on the banana boat and kayaking up and down the beach. There were team-building tasks which required lots of problem-solving skills and working together to achieve their goal. One of their goals was to soak their teachers! It was a fabulous day with excellent sunny weather! The children had a wonderful time and their behaviour was outstanding!

Year 6 had an amazing adventure day in Puerto Rico. They went kayaking, paddleboarding and on a banana ride. The children had so much fun, swimming and splashing in the water. Kayaking and paddleboarding were a first-time experience for some of the children and all of them learnt some new skills. The weather was lovely and the children really enjoyed themselves, spending all day outside. We had a very quiet bus on the return journey!

In science, year 5SE have been experimenting with gravity and air resistance.

In our first investigation, we tested how the size of an object would affect the speed of its fall.

In our second investigation, we made three parachutes and changed one variable to test which parachute would have the most air resistance.

We discussed the importance of a fair test, worked together to calculate our results and wrote a conclusion for our investigations. We love being scientists!

It’s been a busy start to the year in 4A, with lots of fun activities. We have been using our whiteboards in maths to help us solve addition questions using the compact column method. In humanities, we have used our devices to research the spread of the Roman Empire, we were amazed at all the countries they invaded. We also used our atlas skills to locate some of the countries the Romans conquered.

Entrants from KS1 and KS2 designed an A4 size poster to give other students their age some ideas on how to keep learning!
Many congratulations to Naya Y5SE who won the runner up in her category of KS2.

Year 1 had a wonderful walk around our local area. We needed to map a route to help Sunny the meerkat find his way from the Kalahari desert to our school. We knew he would be in Tafira Alta somewhere by now! We also talked a lot about the natural and manufactured materials we could spot along the way.
